No, it’s not Valentines related {breathes sigh of relief}
As you know, or should know Whitney and I are from Georgia. So when our Mom recommended The Night the Lights Went Out by Karen White, I HAD to pick it up. Well, order it. If you’re asking why you must not be a Reba fan. She sang a wildly popular song called “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia”. Ringing a bell? What about the song “Fancy”?
I digress. We can chat about Reba and karaoke later.
Book of the Month – The Night the Lights Went Out
It’s a great book, let me tell you why:
On the inside cover, Lauren Willig states that it’s a mix of To Kill a Mockingbird and Big Little Lies. Hellooooo… need I say more? Set in a fictional town in Georgia, it’s part romantic comedy and part murder mystery. If you are a small town kinda gal (or guy) it will tug at your hometown heartstrings.
Merilee, the main character, has to start over after a cheating scandal and finds herself in the company of a precious, albeit ornary, nonagenarian. To add to the cheating scandal, Merilee learns that a local blog advertises everything about the town. And by everything, I mean everything. Throw in a dead body and you, my friends, have a wonderful Sunday read.
I don’t want to give too much away, so read it and post your thoughts in the comments!

This book is the epitome of a classic Southern novel! It’s a little bit Wisteria Lane, a little Steel Magnolias, and a little Lewis Grizzard all rolled into one book. I’m currently reading it again just because I love the characters and story line so much. This book should certainly be on everyone’s “To Read” list!
